day 101!!! (I Resolve in Thread To....)

Play more with my kids.

I have the best kids ever. Ellie is 6 and Claire is 4. They are incredibly bright, funny, enthusiastic kids. They are total "do'ers". I want to be a "do'er" too. I want to be a part of their fun club. It's so easy in the summer... We go to the beach, parks every day, bike rides. But the winters are tough. Maybe we won't be playing on the swings but we are going to have fun.

day 100!!! (I Resolve in Thread To....)

Wow! Day 100. I am pretty pumped.

This year I resolve to travel.

I haven't left my beautiful Canada since 1998. This year I am going to cross the border and visit my friendly neighbours in the USA. I will have to do a craft show. That's how I like to roll.

So if you see a shiny VW bug in the horizon.... it's not me. I will be driving my ugly, smelly minivan that we lovingly refer to as "The Lunchbox".

Press!

I just received an email from someone who said she found me via Jenny Hart's Sublime Stitching Blog!

Jenny Hart for those who live under a rock is the Queen of Modern Embroidery. I bought her kit years ago and was too intimidated to try it.... but that cute little kit (oh and its the cutest packaged kit ever btw) kept calling to me...

Stitch it Kit

And then I did... and the love affair with embroidery began.

For anyone that wants to take a stab (I couldn't resist the pun) at trying embroidery I recommend anything Jenny has written.  She makes embroidery very accessible and best of all fun!

Thank you so much Jenny!

day 99 (I Resolve in Thread to... relax more and maybe read a book or two)

I am going to start reading books again. I used to be an avid reader. I still am but I mostly read how to and design books (which I love) but this year  I want to read for pure kicks.

I have at this point just ordered the poster.... the rest is still a disaster zone.

"It's a Wonderful Life"

....because it truly is.

day 93 (falalalala la la la flick)

"The Nightmare Before Christmas"

I embroidered the hearts on Jack and Sally with glow in the dark embroidery thread and the two hearts are connected by the thread each stabbed in a heart by a needle (pretty crafty eh?)This is my first time using glow in the dark floss... I have had it stashed away in my sewing box for ages. These babies need to be charged! I will post them in their glowing glory tomorrow.

day 92 (falalalala la la la flick week)

"Nightmare Before Christmas"
The two hearts are embroidered out of glow in the dark floss. Heartstrings attached with a needle.

I have had this floss forever but it's been in my sewing box. I need to charge these babies up and will post them in all their glowing glory tomorrow.

day 92 falalalala la la la flick

It's 2:00am and I am finally finished. Now I have to go upstairs and try not to wake my hubbie who went to bed 4 hours ago.

I am going to be a mess tomorrow.

But Macaulay Culkin in Home Alone...worth it.

My daughter caught me doing this the other day and gave me a scolding.

day 87 (Domestic Bliss)

My mom always hand washed our floors. She said that it was the only way you can see the dirt. She would put the kitchen chairs in the dining room and lined them up in a row and I would pretend it was a train. I loved it.

day 86 (Domestic Bliss week)

My husband would get just as excited seeing me iron in my Ponderosa sweatshirt. I hate ironing. I have broken down crying trying to get those creases just so. I iron my husbands shirts to make up for something I have done wrong. It's the equivalent of him buying me flowers. I have been a really good housewife of late and have shed no tears over the ironing board...there are no fresh flowers in my house either. Marital Bliss.

day 85 (Domestic Bliss)

I am a proud homemaker. To those who take care of the daily chores that no one notices... remember, we are domestic goddesses. It is an art on to it's own.

day 84 (Hoarding Intervention week)

Books, Books, Books, Books! Luckily my hubbie never gives me a tough time about buying and collecting books.

In the last 2 weeks I have purchased these and must admit they are in direct competion with completing daily embroideries!

Recognize those cute knee caps ? My thanks to a Girl Named Astrid.

day 82 (Hoarding Intervention week)

Ceramic Chotchkies. They are just too cute to pass up. Addictive quality about these cuties.. you must collect things for them to hold.

day 81 (Hoarding Intervention week)

Vintage dresses. You will have to take them away with me kicking and screaming.

day 80 (The Hoarding Intervention)

Don't get me started about shoes. They are my friends and they like company.

day 79 (The Hoarding Intervention)

So yes, I have many pairs of boots. But that hardly makes me a hoarder. My husband asks "how many cameras do you own?". That would be 15.

day 78 (The Intervention)

So my husband recently had an "intervetion" with me. It seems that he perceived me as having a bit of a shopping/collection problem. My poor hubbie! He has mistaken my curation of vintage goods as an addiction.
I asked him to provide some examples.
He made note of my collection of boots. To embroider this I hmm'd and hawed over my 20+ pairs of western boots.

Cute knee caps courtesy of Astrid.

day 76 (Blog Crush)

So as I mentioned in a past post we had a fantastic day on Wednesday in Peterborough at the blogger meet up and tea at Michele Karch-Ackerman's show "Foundling" at the Peterborough Art Gallery.

A couple of pics from that day.

You might recognize these ladies as they have all been been stitched these past week Me, Mel, Caren, Elycia, Astrid ,  my daughter Claire, Desiree and Carly

Well almost all have been stitched.

See the girl posed perfectly in the middle of the group? With the lovely hair that she told my daughter Claire was courtesy of pink lemonade?

I have been crushing on this girl and her blog for a long time. And then I found out that she was coming to the tea!!! I must admit I was very nervous meeting her, I fumbled words, stuttered a bit and got a bit giddy. She was so sweet and nice and funny.... just making me more of a babbling idiot. I managed to get out the words. "Do you mind if I stitch your portrait?"

and she said yes!

Thanks so much Elycia! I swear next time we meet I will be less a fool!
